On Historic Route 99, just outside the city limit, The Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge, a 10,000 acre major wintering ground for migratory birds and wildlife is located for watchers. For outdoor people, there is plenty of fishing, boating, camping, picnicking, swimming, hiking, photography and locations such as Mendocino National Forest, Black Butte Lake, Stony Gorge and the Sacramento River.
